THE SMILE OUTREACH

The Good Cycle Menstrual Equity

The second thematic area of the Hand-to-Mind Project. We establish self-replicating Pad Stations in schools, IDP camps, and prisons, where girls learn to produce reusable menstrual products and activate new stations in their own communities. Each station is a permanent hub for product access, health education, and economic empowerment.

The Self-Replicating Model

This is the core innovation. Every Pad Station has the inherent capacity to generate the next one, without proportional funding increases. The initiative scales through people and skills, not through budgets.

What a Pad Station does

More Than a Distribution Point

Pad Stations are permanent community infrastructure. They serve three integrated functions simultaneously.

Tools for Every Pad Station

Reaching the Most Underserved

Pad Stations are deployed in the settings where menstrual inequity is most acute and interventions are fewest. These are not peripheral locations, they are core to our mission.

Schools

Secondary schools across Nigeria where period poverty drives absenteeism and dropout. Pad Stations keep girls in class by removing one of the most persistent barriers to their education.

IDP Camps

North-East Nigeria hosts one of the world’s most protracted displacement crises. Girls in camps like Boranji in Adamawa have virtually no access to menstrual products or health education.

Prisons

Incarcerated women and girls are among the most invisible populations in Nigeria. Pad Stations in prisons provide dignity, education, and skills that prepare women for reintegration.

Good Cycle Delegates

The people who carry this work

Good Cycle Delegates are community members trained to lead monthly facilitation sessions at Pad Stations, manage pad banks, run entrepreneurial activities, and, most importantly, train the next group of girls to establish new stations in their own communities.

They are supported by TSO’s State Coordinators and the A.G.E.N.C.Y volunteer network. They are not temporary programme staff. They are permanent community assets with permanent skills.
